The 1000 Lives Campaign

The 1000 Lives Campaign is the engine driving the improvements in patient safety and healthcare quality across Wales as described in the Healthcare Quality Improvement Plan: Designed to Deliver 2006 (QuIP).

The 1000 Lives Campaign presents an opportunity to energise involvement of frontline staff, as well as executive teams, in the quality and safety agenda. The aspiration of the 1000 Lives Campaign is to avoid up to 50,000 episodes of avoidable harm and save up to 1000 lives in Welsh healthcare.

The 1000 Lives Campaign is a national effort to reduce preventable harm, including death, in Wales. It will not attempt to attribute all improvement over the next two years solely to its efforts. It is fundamental that the improvements we will see reflect all of the local and national initiatives. The 1000 Lives Campaign will bring together these current and proposed initiatives, add value to them and ensure support organisations are aligned.
